Spring 2022 CLASSES

Class schedules have changed.  We now have shorter sessions and with a great deal of variety.  In addition, you can register and pay for your class 30 days prior to the session.  Think about taking Watercolor, Mixed Media, Book Art, Pin, and Ink, Beginning Oil through Advanced.  There is a class or two for you!

You may be a guest member for a one-time class without her belonging to the Woman’s Club.  This is a temporary opportunity for a non-member to get acquainted with our Club.

Classes and Workshops – Spring 2022

Session 1: Handmade Books - Artists will create a stash of handmade books and journals to use as sketchbooks and gifts.  Each book will feature a different technique for pages and assembly. A new book will be made in each class with a new technique for pages and assembly.
6-week session on Monday Mornings – 9:30 – 12:30. Meets Feb. 14, 21, 28 Mar. 7, 14, 21. Tuition: $115

Session 2: Innovations with Ink: Artists will use simple supplies and unique techniques to create amazing textures, marks and designs on paper and canvas.  You will create original works of art with all the fun things you can do with ink!
4-week session on Monday Mornings – 9:30 – 12:30. Meets May 2, 9, 16, 23 Tuition: $75


WATERCOLOR - Instructor: Diane Brown, https://ruralgirlgraphics.com
This course will allow students of all experience levels and artistic styles can explore methods, techniques, materials, and products associated with the art of watercolor.  Each week a particular technique, process, or product will be demonstrated and practiced.  Students will be encouraged to practice the featured process and perhaps incorporate it in their projects.  Beginners’ projects will be provided with guidance given each session.  Advanced students may pursue the projects provided or work independently.  Various principles of design and composition will be presented for the instruction of beginners with a review for the experienced.  The instructor, Diane Brown, is a watercolorist with 45 years of experience in water media.

OIL – BEGINNING THROUGH ADVANCED - Instructor: Judy Gelfert, https://www.judygelfert.com
Session 1 – Judy will again focus on "Figures in Landscape". We will review composition, shape, value, color temperature, brushstrokes, and edges to create landscapes and believable figures with correct dimensions and gestures that convey movement. Students are encouraged to paint their own subjects. Judy will also have photos available that you may use.
Session 2 - Judy will focus on the portrait once again with attention to composition, shape, value, color temperature, brushstrokes, and edges to create accurate drawings, skin tone in varying light, facial features.  Artwork will accurately portray expression, and supportive backgrounds. Students are encouraged to photograph a friend or family member in good lighting to use as a subject.

Both sessions artists will continue to work on art that may be other than landscapes and portraits.

Fundamentals of Painting, drawing, sculpture - Instructor: Judy Sager, https://www.facebook.com/SagerStudios/
Session 1 Students will work on impressionistic landscapes with small canvas and oils.  How to save a painting. Making th4e human figure easy to draw and creating small clay sculptures.

4-week session on Wednesday Afternoons – 12:30 to 3:30 meets Jan. 12, 19, 25 Feb. 2.   Tuition $75

Session 2 Students will experience solar painting with prisms and graphic tools, using negative space and why, and the best techniques for painting pets and animals.  

4-week session on Wednesday Afternoons – 12:30 to 3:30 meets Feb. 9, 23, Mar. 2, 9    Tuition $75

Session 3 Students will make beaded earrings (small supply fee), create contour drawings like Picasso, create graphic design with ink pen and end with a field trip.

PAINTING REVISITED - Instructor: Linda Leonhart McCall, https://www.lindamccall.com/
Still Life - Session 1 This class will focus on a creative and exciting way to paint still life works of art.  The class will begin with a discussion of still life painters from several genres.  Demonstrations will also help artists understand the concepts of these artists.

Artists will be able to focus on their own personal style.  Still life set ups will be provided or artists may bring photos of items to use in their paintings.  The formulation of ideas is important in all paintings.  Oil, Acrylic, Mixed Media

6-week sessions on Thursday Afternoons - 12:30 to 3:30   Session 1 meets Feb. 3, 10, 24, Mar. 3, 24, 31. Tuition: $115

Landscape - Session 2 This class will focus on the creation of landscape paintings that stimulate the eye of the beholder.  Paintings may be with or without figures.  Artists can project completion of 1 large and 2 smaller paintings for the class.  Photos and pictures will be used where objects may be combined from different resources.  Demonstrations as well as discussion and critique will aid the artist in understanding the concepts of art that stimulate the eye. Museum Tours

At least two other Museum tours are in the making including an overnight road trip to an outstanding museum with an additional sculpture garden that will be in full bloom in the spring.
